Blain was born and raised in Canada but played most of his amateur golf in Australia. Blain won the "B" Grade, City of Perth Championship (Western Australia) in 1992 and won the "A Reserve" Champion of Champions in 1993. In 1997 Blain competed in the Alberta Canada PAT (Playing Ability Tournament) and qualified for Membership in the Canadian PGA. Blain was the Assistant Professional at the Highlands Golf Club for three years before returning to work in the field of Engineering. Blain recently relocated to Cambridge with his wife. Blain works forward to working with the Cambridge community.
